Lidt om jazzfotografen Kirsten Malone

Kirsten Malone var allerede som ganske ung helt sikker på at fotografien skulle præge hendes livsbane. Hun kom i lære som pressefotograf og afsluttede sin uddannelse i 1960. Gennem hele sin læretid udførte hun fortrinsvis opgaver omkring kunstnere der havde relation til Danmarks Radio.

Senere etablerede hun sig som Freelance pressefotograf i samarbejde med sin mand, skribenten Leonard Malone. Her omfattede hendes aktiviteter hovedsagelig jazzen, men også kunstnere som Kim Larsen. Hendes produktion præger utallige pladecovers og er bragt i talrige internationale publikationer, som det spanske El Pais, det franske le Jazz hot, N.Y.Herald Tribune international og herhjemme mest Berlingske Tidende. Kirsten Malone har illustreret talrige bøger som the Danish Radio Big Band af Leonard Malone, La Dance des Infidels – Bud Powel af Francis PaudrasMore than You Know – Dexter Gordon in Copenhagen 1966 af Leonard Malone og medvirket ved illustrationen af bøger som Øjeblikkets antændelse, om Copenhagen Jazzhouse, Diary of Jazz og Chet Baker in Europe.

Kirsten Malone er en flittig udstiller og har mange udstillinger bag sig. Flere udstillinger i forbindelse med Copenhagen Jazz Festival, the Library of Congres´s Music division i Washington Dc, Steve´s books and records I København og mange biblioteker og spillesteder. Da det hæderkronede Mont Martre genåbnede, var hele lokalet og facaden udsmykket med hendes exeptionelle sort hvide fotografier af mange af jazzens største personligheder som Dexter Gordon, Bud Powell, Brew More og mange flere fanget midt i deres musik eller under private former.

Kirsten Malones dybe indsigt i jazzverdenen og musikalske fornemmelse har gjort hendes jazzfotos til en særlig del af fotokunsten.   

Kirsten Malone the jazz photographer

Kirsten Malone is educated pressphotographer since 1961. In the start of her education she was preferably engaged taking photos of artists in connection with shows in the the Danish Radio and Television.

Later on, together with her husband the writer Leonard Malone she cowered a lot of jazz activities, but also artists as, Kim Larsen. Tina Turner, Manhatten Transfer and several others. Her pictures are illustrating a lot of CD cowers and are brought in several international Publications as the Spanish “El Pais” the French “Le Jazz Hot”, and the American “ N.Y.Herald Tribune” and in Denmark primary “ Berlingske Tidende”.  She illustrated a lot of books as: The Danish Radio Big Band” by Leonard Malone, “La dance des infidels”, Bud Powel by Francis Poudras, “More than You know”, “Dexter Gordon in Copenhagen 1966” by Leonard Malone, and partly illustrated books as “øjeblikkets antændelse” about Copenhagen Jazzhouse, “Diary of jazz” and Chet Baker in Europe”.

During the years Kirsten Malone made a lot of exhibitions, often In connection with “the Copenhagen Jazz Festival”, and “Steves Books Records” in Copenhagen, the Library of Congress music division in Washington and a lot of other libraries and several jazz clubs. When the famous and popular jazzhouse “Mont Martre” in Copenhagen reopened, the total establissement was decorated with Kirstens exceptional black and white Photographs of the greatest jazz musicians as Dexter Gordon, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, Brew More and Niels Henning Oersted, taken under concerts or private.

Kirsten Malones great knowledge and musical feeling has made pictures to special part of the photographic art.
